Hello, my father was Peter Lemone of San Francisco. He was with the 635th Field Artillery Battalion "Prime Movers". I have the book about this Batallion: The Story Of Drumfire. I have a few pictures of my father with his war buddies taken after the war in Germany. He passed away in June 2003. He often spoke of his buddies from New England.

My father, Stanley D. Pierson was with the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion with General George S. Patton.
My father is listed as the second to the last officer on the letters from Gen. Patton. Dad was the Chief Warrant Officer at that time.
I have some original pictures taken of Gen. Patton "pissing" in the Rhine as they always write it. I heard that story many times from my father.
Thank you so much for doing this.

This is a wonderful website. I am doing a scrap book on my father's (Harvey W. Bensink) military service so that his great grandchildren will know more of their herritage and the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today. My Dad passed away 10 years ago and this has been a great help for piecing together his deployment in Europe. Thank you so much for the efforts in creating this website. I do have Dad's photo of the 817 Headquarters Company taken at Camp Campbell, KY on 2-26-44 that I would be glad to share-just need to get instructions on how to do this since the photo is 35 inches by 10 inches.

I want to email someone who is an expert on the Tank Destroyers of WWII. I have 2 photos of my uncle in a unit, but could not get anymore info from the Army on him. All I know is he was in a half track unit, and he was at the battle of the Remagen Bridge in Germany. The records got burnt in a fire in the 70's. I I could get was proof of his enlistment time.

I just cannot believe that I'm the only family member trying to learn about my grandfathers military history. Myself being retired military may drive my interests. My grandpa (John W. Eskins, Tec 4) was attached to the 691st TD Bn. He passed away March 14, 1997, however my grandma (Helen) is with us and can shovel snow with the best, but not much longer. She's in Neb & I'm in Cal, & erks me that nobody is quick to take over her duties.
So, as I'm trying to put an almost blank puzzle together, I'm looking for any information about his active service.
The internet & Grandma can recite some letters, which gave me a minimal jump start. I learned that his service record is available to the public through the National Archives, but absolutely zero information on him that I can find. Possible 1973 fire?
I know he earned a Bronze Star and nobody knows the truth. My dad said said it was fixing guns, but you and I know better. Any tid-bit about him, a story, or even an active duty photo is golden. Oh, I'm retired military & been through wringer, so no subject is too taboo. Thank you, my friends.

They never talked about their war experiences to any degree so your association has provided me some valuable information in "fleshing out" John's military service during WWII.

He was awarded posthumously with a silver star for this action by 87th ID General Order N° 118 dd. 9th of May 1945. Can you help to receive a copy of this Order? HAs anybody pictures of Capt. Nicklas or know where his family lives? I will do mey very best to name a street in the town where he was kia in order to honor him. Thnaks Andreas

Great news. After several years of research and a 9 month Congressional inquirey, CPL Johnnie C. Amacker of the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company "A", has recieved the Purple Heart Medal for wounds sustained in action during his WWII service in Europe. This comes almost 70 years after the fact, but better late than never. It is worth noting that the Purple Heart Medal is an entitlement and it is earned not awarded.
Great site. Thanks for what you do.

hello, I am Donald Miller son of John R. Miller my father was in the 653rd TDB but that is all he ever told me about his units during WWII. he was also a truck driver so I am assuming that when he went overseas that was the unit and MOS he had. since it looks like the 653rd never left the states. I do know he was with Gen Patton, from one of the stories he told me. and was in Normandy on D day. I have a map of where the units went and a list of the cities that they liberated. quite a long list. but since dad's records were destroyed in the fire I can find out nothing. in fact today is the first day I have found anything about the 653rd anywhere. of the few stories he told me, one was that he trained guys to ride motorcycles. ie: how to put one down when you came under fire and not kill yourself while trying to keep from being killed. there are a couple more stories but that was all. does anybody remember him? I would like to find out something .... anything. THANK YOU for this site to honor this great generation of men AND women. they sacrificed so much to keep us free.I would love to hear from anyone in this unit weather they knew my father or not. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I am trying to locate anybody who might have known him. My father is trying to put together his achievments but his records was lost in the fire. For me knowing what my grandfather went through might help me with my own experiences through 2 tours in Iraq and 1 tour in Afghanistan. Please if anyone can help it would be great. I am currently stationed at FT. Carson if anybody is close. God bless you all and thank you for your sacrifice so we can live free and fight again.

I want to think you for the article written by Bill Oettle. My grandfather was Harold Jones, my grandmother told me about the mine his TD hit in the North Apennines Mountains, but I didn't know the details of it. My grandfather never spoke of his experience during the war, so I know very little about it. I would be very appreciative of any other stories or pictures that anyone has to share. If anyone has any questions for me, please feel free to ask, I don't know much about my grandfather's war experience, but I was fortunate to have him in my life until 2002.
