Biography:  Joseph Monfort Tardif was born February 7, 1922 in St. Agatha, Maine.  Joe attended local schools but would go to work on the family farm prior to entering the service.

Service Time:  Joe entered the service on October 23, 1940 in Berlin, NH.  He was assigned to Company B of the 601st Tank Destroyer Bn.  The 601st received credit for 9 campaigns in North Africa, Italy and Europe including 2 Unit Citations.  Joe himself was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and French Croix de Guerre.  He was honorably discharged in May of 1945 at Fort Devens, MA.

On November 9, 1948, Joe Married the former Juliette Ann Albert who was also from St. Agatha. Together the couple would have 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls. Joe worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington, CT., but in his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and going for walks.

Joe passed away October 9, 2000 and is buried in his hometown of St. Agatha, ME.  I want to thank Joe’s daughter Ann for providing this information.
