Biography:  Arthur Edward Pelkey, "Art" was born on Jan. 25, 1926 in Rutland, VT. He was the son of Martin and Anna Francis McGurgan Pelkey.  He attended the Holyoke Trade school in Massachusetts and graduated June 18, 1944.  It would be only three days later that he would be drafted in the Army on Jun. 21, 1944.

Service Time:   Art entered the service at Ft. Devens, MA and would join the 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion as a replacement on Mar. 1, 1945.  He would continue in the Army until 1957 when he would join the Air Force until his retirement in 1977.  The following link is to a document provided to me by Art Pelkey, which provides a very detailed history of his 33 year career in the United States Military.

"My Career" by Arthur E. Pelkey

Art met and married the former Anna Mae McCarthy on Sept. 18, 1948.  She was the daughter of Edward J. and Agnes B. McHale McCarthy of Springfield, MA. The family made Massachusetts their home and lived in South Hadley Falls.  The couple had four children, Nancy born in April of 1951, Arthur Jr. born in Aug. of 1955, John born in Oct. of 1957 and Janice born in May of 1960.  Although Art made the military his career, he had other interests which included hunting, fishing, bowling and target shooting on the base teams.  Art is a life member of the VFW and the NRA and a member of the American Legion, Air Force Association, Air Force Sergeants and the Retired Enlisted Associations.  Art is now married to Minnie Inez Pelkey and lives in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina.

Thank you very much Art, for providing this information and for your 33 years of service!  The photo below shows Art and his wife Minnie, going to his unit's reunion, in October of 2012.
