My father, John Wolff, served with the 771st in HQ company. Never talked about his war time experiences. He was born in Germany and we are jewish. He was arrested, along with his father and brother, by the Gestapo on November 10th, 1938 and was sent to Dachau, was released along with his brother on December 25th, 1938, my grandfather died there. Made it to the states through France in February 1940. Was drafted in January 1943. I can not even begin to imagine what it was like for him to be a German in an American unit and to return to a country which he had struggled to leave.

My Grandfather, William J. Laughner, was in the 628th. Very cool website- even found some photos of him! Thanks for sharing

My step-Father, 1st Lt. Edward B.Patterson, 644th, was captured on recon on Dec. 17,1944. Quote from a letter to Patterson from Harlow F. Lenon, 24 Dec. 1945. "...After you had gone around the hill toward Bullingen on that memorable occasion, we heard quite a lot of small arms fire, and shortly thereafter the point of the Kraut column came over the same road you had just been travelling. Lt. McDemott took care of the German Tanks, but we assumed that you had gone to your reward. Our joy at getting your radio reports did not last long, because we were informed in the afternoon that Bullingen was taken completely, and we saw and fired on a hugh column which was moving out of Bullingen to the west toward Butgenbach. (more) Ed, you deserve the very highest commendation for your exploits that day. A number of stories reached us about your stand in Bullingen, and what information we got by radio was invaluable when we set up the southern defences of Krinkelt and Wirtzfeld. Your conduct in this operation and in the Hurtgen Forest battle were of the highest order, and I hope you will accept this letter as a enthusiastic expression of my regard for your intelligence, courage and soldierliness. My father, Cecil Hutto,served in the 601st Tank Dest.Batt.in Italy,and Tunisia.He passed on in 1977.He had two tanks blown up with him in them.Everybody died,but him twice.I loved my father very much,and miss him.If there is anybody that remembers him,please contact me.

I would like to thank the administrators for the fine work on this sight. My Father, William F. King is still alive and well at 92 years old. He was a 1LT. in the 704th. I showed him this sight, and he got a kick out of it. He also told me stories of some of the men pictured and listed here. Keep up the good work, Barry King

My Father Felix S. Savella, Corporal T, served in the 640th TD Battalion in the Pacific. He passed in Sept, 1980. Where can I do more research on his Battalion or Unit he served with.Thank you to all who Served our Country. Best Regards Damien
