My daddy, Sgt. Allen D. Fields, served in CO C of the 629th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Daddy passed away in January, 1998. He never talked much about his role in the war, but I do know he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, which he received for action on February 3, 1945, somewhere in Germany. Looking for any information for my children on my father who died 27 January 1988. Col. Thomas J. Conlin who became commanding officer of the 602nd TD Battalion in Nov. 1944. He later commanded 8th Tank Battlion after VE Day and before I was born in Nurnberg 1947 whike he was military commander of Bayreuth Bamberg in the US Zone. I still have Order signed by GS Patton ordering his unit to Bastogne, 1944.

I'm looking for information for a friend's father who was in a TD unit in the Philippines. I don't know which unit. I'd give the website a higher rating but the AAR PDF's I've been looking up come up as blank black pages. Frustrating! Other than that, good info. Matt

My Father, Harry W. Ekstrom served on an M10 tank with the 893rd Tank Destroyer Battalion. Saw combat in the 5 European campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Earned Silver Star.

My dad (Bert Johnson) was in Company C, 811th Tank Destroyer Battalian. Like most WWII Vets he didn't say much. I do know he fought in Belgium and was assigned to the 80th Infantry. He was proud of his purple heat and the presidential unit citation for C Company. My dad passed in 1991. I have hundreds of questions I wish I would have asked him.

My grandfather, Melvin Lavin, served with the 824th tank destroyer battalion. He is a great grandfather and I love talking with him about his war experiences. I'm so glad that this website exists so that even after he and I are gone, his legacy will remain.

My uncle, Alvin Sandell, served in the 823rd, Company C. I have enjoyed doing research on the 823rd and passing it along to his children. Alvin didn’t talk much about his war experiences and unfortunately he passed away in 1972, so the little information I have about his expierences is what he revealed to his wife and brothers. My father Edward Paul Shanaberg was a member of the 773rd Tank Destroyer battalion, in the Recon company. He has passed away in 1986. I was also a member of the Army in the 70’s and stationed in Mainz Germany. Father had the chance to visit Germany and we went to Oppenheim which is only a few miles away from my current residence. I will be traveling to the Normandy in the next days to follow the steps that the 773rd made 67 years ago. Thanks for the historic information that has greatly helped in preparing for this trip.

My father Anthony C. Bielenberg was a driver in company B of the 692. He hosted several reunions in the 1980s. He enjoyed cooking whatever his crews could find. He received a purple heart "because I was slower diving for cover than the other guy." While Dad had forgotten many memories, chatting with his buddies brought back many stories before he died in 1992. The 692 newsletter has helped us re-connect with his buddies.
