Had a good chat with my wife's distant uncle who was in the 280th TD Battalion. Would love to find more info on his unit. He is 91 now and still has a sharpe memory of his experiences.

For some reason the system edited out the word a-m-a-z-i-n-g in my previous post. My dad was in the 607th TD Bn, B Co.

An *** collection of information. My dad had said that the unit fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes, yet the logs only put them in the Bastogne area after the clean up started. As a half track and 6x6 driver, he told of after VE day, taking sheep to the vet, instead of the vet coming to the sheep. He also told of one driver who used the clutch to start and stop and that was it. I believe the same driver dumped his 6x6 in the ditch with a load of ammunition, and luckily, no catastrophic chain reaction happened.
-T/5 Melvin L. Larson of B Co. passed away in April of 2000 at age 85, survived by his wife of 39 years, and his son, 37 at that time. He is buried with his folks in Sagle, Id.-
Thanks for having this website for the memory of all those who fought for our country.

Thank you for a wonderful website. I just learned of it through the 692nd Newsletter (Thanks Ray, Joyce and Greg).
My father, Sgt.Thermon L. Pope of Acworth, Georgia, served with Co. B of the 692nd. He passed in 1969.
He was always proud to have served with 692nd.

My Uncle was John J. Stapko. I never met him. Dad said when he came back from the war he never left home again. I think he died in 1959. The picture of the letter to my Aunt Sally is the first thing I have seen of his. There are some pictures of him in my fathers old photos. If anyone knows anything about him I would love to know.
Thanks

My grandather is GD Stedman. Served with the 636th in N. Africa and in Europe. Got hit by a shell and his left side is covered with shrapnel scars and has a piece of his left tricep missing. Earned a bronze star and a silver medal. Would love to hear about anybody that may remember him. He is still alive.
