My father,Pfc Lloyd Terrell Derrick, from Balsam, NC served with the 893rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company "A". He was involved in four major battle campaigns and earned a Bronze Star for meritous service and uncommon valor. He fondly remembers riding in their M-10 TD through the streets of Paris during the liberation even though there were still snipers firing down at the crowds. A few years ago he was reunited with Herman B. Nail from Hanceville, Alabama. Herman was the tank's driver. I salute these brave men and all who served in the Tank Destroyer Battalions.

I'm a proud granddaughter of Dudley Bob Myers of the 4th Armored Division, Tank Driver. He was in the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion - B Company and discharged as Technical Sergeant. He rarely spoke about his time in WW2, but he did talk to me and my husband about it. I remember him telling one story when Patton asked him "Soldier, what's the hold up?" and asked how he was making it. The Germans mined the road ahead - I think they called it dragon's teeth (?). And another story when bullets were flying by him and he ran "like a jackrabbit." He was a great man...I still miss him every day.
