Charles R. Crimmins
Biography: Charles Richard Crimmins was born on March 2, 1923, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Edward H. Crimmins and Nellie M. Rice. On November 15, 1941, in Fort Dodge, he married the former Frances E. Lennon who was born in Clare, IA. She was the daughter of Clement Lennon and Barbara Korsa. He is listed as a mechanic on the marriage license. His draft card, dated June 30, 1942, shows he was employed with Ace Metal Company in Fort Dodge. His enlistment record indicates he was employed in the fabrication of textile products and completed grammar school.
Service Time: Charles entered the military on January 22, 1943, at Camp Dodge, Herrold, IA. We don’t have any information on his early military career but he is listed on the 6th Tank Destroyer Group payroll roster of 7-28-43. He left the Army on Novemeber 27, 1945, at the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
At some point, he married Verda R. (unknown). A 1955 Fort Dodge City Directory lists Charles as a mechanic at Stampler-Phelps Ford. He was a big fan of NASCAR racing. Charles passed away on Feburary 3, 1997 and was buried in the Corpus Christi Cemetery in Fort Dodge, IA.
