Unit History: Formed on July 25, 1942, at Camp Gruber, OK, as a Heavy Self-Propelled unit. Unit was disbanded on March 27, 1944, at Camp Hood, TX and its personnel transferred to the Eighth Service Command. The 829th was a unit comprised of black enlisted personnel with mostly white officers.
