638th TD Battalion
A small group of trainees, identified as Company F. Photo was taken on March 22, 1942, while the unit was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Lawrence, Indiana. The unit had been formed just four months earlier. A Private Melega is listed as the instructor. The only identified soldier is Frank W. A cartoon thought to be of Arthur "Art" Koestner, born Oct. 21, 1910 and originally of Illinois. He was a friend of Frank W. Jones who kept in contact with him after the war. He passed away on December 13, 1989. Photo courtesy of John H. Jones.
