8th TD Group
Col. Harry C. Larter Jr. was born in Newark, New Jersey, and graduated from West Point, in 1925. He served at a number of military facilities before being assigned to the Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, OK, in 1931. In 1941, Major Larter was called on to command the 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion and then in 1942, he took command of the 8th Tank Destroyer Group. He left the service in 1950, due to health reasons and passed away in 1960. He was buried in the Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
