• My father, Leonard Moody McCormick, was a member of the 899th. He returned to his home state of Texas to enlist after living in Southern California for a few years. He was born 4 June 1926 in Mullin, Mills County, Texas and died 17 December 1990 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After the war officially ended he re-enlisted for an additional year to help rebuild roads, etc. in Germany and France. He was always proud of his Army 899th tank service!

• Hello, My name is Frank Melka and I was in the 809th Tank Destroyer Unit. With a little help from my son, I’m able to write this message to you. I entered the army in Ft. Meade, MD and then went to Camp Hood, TX then to Ft. Riley, KS. When I went overseas, I was in England, Belgium, Holland, and then Germany. The thing that made it a bit easier to deal with was seeing all of the beautiful women in these different countries. Also, I’m 87 now, so it would be great to know if there are still some other 809th guys out there still.

• Hello, My grandfather Ivan W. Allis served in HQ Company of the 817th. He passed away nearly a year ago. I have always been very interested in the Tank Destroyers and have recently been able to devote more time to researching and reading. My grandmother was so pleased today when I told her about the site and I showed her the official roster that I obtained from the site. I have had a hard time finding more detailed and personal accounts/pictures of the 817th. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Adam Robinson

• Thank you for the website. It filled some of the gaps that my father mentioned about his service in WWII. He served in the 817th TD Charles W. Crane is 93 years old and still going strong! God Bless him and all of our veterans.
