Dear Mr. Haldeman, My great uncle, 1st Lt. Nathan Baskind, was a commander in the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Last year, his remains were found in a German mass grave after being missing in action for 80 years. I'm writing a book about Nate, from his origins as the child of Eastern European Jewish immigrants, to his years in the Army, and then his death and recovery of his remains. The book culminates with the outpouring of love across borders since the discovery of his remains and subsequent burial with full military honors at Normandy American Cemetery. My grandfather was Rocco F. Bonura. He is listed in the roster as 2nd Lieutenant in 704th TDB. He immigrated to America from Sicily when he was about 14 yrs old. I am so proud of my grandfather and what all of the greatest generation did to save the world from the Nazis. He passed away when I was 8 yrs old. I am 47 yrs old now and am a Lieutenant in the State Police. I miss him and hope I have made him proud. This is an amazing website. Thank you for all of the hard work you did to make it.

My brother Mike and I, along with our spouses, recently had the privilege of visiting Belgium and seeing where our father, Wilbur Hirsch, served during the Battle of The Bulge. He was with the 825th Tank Destroyers,and was in the area of Nassogne in December 1944. We were joined by Etienne Burnotte of the Nassogne historical circle, and Jean-Pierre Clinckx, who showed us the hill where our father was posted to protect the radio station, the sawmill nearby, and the chateau where the men would go for home-cooked meals with the family who lived there. It was quite an emotional experience, needless to say. Even though Dad has been gone for many years, we felt his presence with us that day. None of this would have possible without Serge Lemaire, who reached out to families of the 825th Tank Destroyers for stories and pictures to include in his wonderful book, Highway IV, released in December 2024. My Dad, Moody James Bosworth, served with Co C 139th TDTB, then was transferred to Co A 2nd Platoon, 656th Tank Destoryer Bn. Arrived Liverpool, England, Dec., 1944, entered France Feb., 1945, entered Belgium 15 Feb. 1945, entered Germany 28 Feb1945, Crossed Rhine river,14 March 1945, final push and EOW, Bayreuth 10 may 1945. My brothers and I are traveling to NOLA ,22 April 25, to the WWII Museum to donate a map of his units history, along with war time pictures of him and platoon. We purchased a brick a while back to be placed in the walkway. Let us not forget the Greatest Generation. We are four brothers, a set of twins, age 77, 1 served USMC, Viet Nam, 1 non service medical issue, 1 age 74, served US ARMY, VIet Nam era, 1 age 83, retired US Army Warrant Officer

Regarding the photograph of 608A. The man standing in the last row, fifth from the right is my late uncle, James Edward Quick. He was assigned 643B when the 608th was deactivated.

I am glad to see a website like this exists. My grandfather served in the 628th, C Co., it was nice to see a photo of him and his name on the roster. I was young when he past and now I able to read about the unit he served with during WWII. Do anyone know where the Tank Destroy Forces Memorial on Fort Hood is located?
