Great site! Thanks for continuing to honor the greatest generation. My dad's childhood friend was Sgt. Wesley T Carter from Evansville, IN He was in the 811th A company 2nd platoon. He was wounded the 17th December early in the opening of the battle of the bulge, unfortunately he died Christmas day 1944.

In answer to your query... I BELIEVE that the Robert C. Miller you've inquired about is the same as Robert C. Miller, Serial Number O1822037. If we're talking about he same RCM, then your father was a Graduate from OCS at Camp Hood, TX. In addition to his wound, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions from 27 JUL 44 to 15 DEC 44 in France. He is cited in XII Corps General Order #2, 6 JAN 45. I have a copy of the General Order I can send you if you want it. Again, Robert C. Miller is a common name. My father, Sgt. John J. "Jack" Halloran, served with the 629th Tank Destroyer battalion. I don't know which company. His unit was commanded by one Lt. Horace Lamb, a Texan. I'm always interested in any information I can get about this unit and my father's "adventures" during the war. He passed away in 1981.

My dad, William Woody, was drafted in March 1943 and was sent to Camp Hood for basic training. He was in Co D of the 137th training battalion. He stayed around 4 months at Camp Hood then was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program. I still have a diagram of the infiltration course that dad drew in pencil and sent to his folks as well as a Tank Destroyer patch.

I was very glad to find this site. My grandfather, Lt. Col. Elmer R. Staib, was in the 610th. He was the lieutenant mentioned in the history who was with his men on Mousson Hill during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Croix de Guerre. I have a roll of undeveloped film he took at a training camp and wondered if there were an historian who would like to have it. Thank you for maintaining this history page.

My father served with the 801st tank destroyer battalion. He entered the service on January 29, 1942. He trained at Fort Niagara and Fort McClellan. He left for overseas in August 1944. He was in the battle of France, Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. He was wounded at Luxemburg on December 24, 1944. He’s a member of the 26th Yankee division of the third army under General Patton. I am looking for any information or photographs of my father.

In the picture posted for Company B is my grandfather, Troy Lee Hollandsworth of Indian Valley, Virginia. His copy of this same picture still hangs on the walls of my grandparents home. He is also listed on the posted roster but his full name is not included as it is too long to fit within the columns or to even include his initials. Before his death, he pulled out a photo album of pictures from the war and shared pictures of others from his company. I would be willing to scan and send copies but cannot identify anyone in the pictures. He also was asked to take photos of proof of concentration camp atrocities and the album included some of those photos. He never talked about or wanted to discuss the war. Oddly enough, after all those years of not talking about it, i was visiting and he decided to shared this album of pics from the war with me a few months before his death.
