Thanks for assembling such a fine, informative website with great links. My father's brother "Tommy," a Tech 5 of B Company 601st TD Bn, was one of five brothers who served. His brother John served in the south Pacific aboard (Navy) USS LSM-128. His brother Elwood was with a (yet unknown) heavy artillery unit in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Tommy and Elwood met up in Naples in August 1944. Their brother William (my father) turned 18 in 1945. He was with the occupational force in Korea, 1946-47. The youngest brother Ernie was a career US Air Force sergeant, serving from 1952 to 1962; and then in the reserves until 1990.

Thank you for this wonderful site! It has helped tremendously fill in some missing pieces to my pawpaws WW2 days. He retired as a Major and during WW2 he was Captain Louis G. Thompson of "C" Company in the 893rd TD Battalion. My father passed down a foot locker of my pawpaws gear as well as a ton of bringbacks from his time in The European Theatre. Once a year I take these items into my daughter's high school as a guest speaker to the Freshman class and watching them be so involved and ask questions while getting to hold a piece of history is so amazing! I hope to make my pawpaw and the 893rd proud by continuing to share their story!

Lester R King was my neighbor that lived in the house behind mine for years when i was growing up. I have a signed copy of his book. He was a great neighbor and a great friend.

My father, 1st Lt. Robert W. Van Dyke, served with the 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company A as commander of the 2nd Platoon. He landed on Utah beach 13 June 1944 and fought through Europe until the end of the war in Europe. He never talked much about his experiences but I have several pictures of his time in the war.

My grandfather was James F Archer of Caldwell Ohio. He was a Cannoneer in Company C of the 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He almost never talked about his time in the war except for funny stories. He kept a photo labeled "My "Destroyer Crew"" and on the back it is labeled Cpl Walter Brooks- Ohio, Sgt Leslie Ingram - Kentucky, Pfc George Thomas - Michigan, and Cpl Curtiss King - Pennsylvania. He never told any stories about guys by name. His sister once said that he had been reported missing during the war but he got very defensive and said that he wasn't missing they had just been hiding. He did receive a Certificate of Merit-Citation for his actions on Dec 12 1944.

My grandfather, Anthony Ercegovich, fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 605th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was a private first class in Company A. If anyone has any further information to share, please do!

My father, Raymond Safreno, was a member of the 826, hosting a reunion first in Pleasanton Ca then in Riverbank Ca for the better part of 30 years . MEmbers of the reunion became as family. Dad became a teacher in Riverbank treble a long time administrator and superintendent. He passed in 87 and laid to rest in Hughson Ca by bids 826 buddy Antone Dana’s.

Rob..................I personally want to thank you from my family, and I'm sure many other families feel the same way. What a wonderful way to preserve the legacy of all of these great veterans. I know that you started out to preserve and pass on some of the info about your own dad, but you have gone above and beyond and I can't help but think that your own dad has to be so proud of your work on this project. steve probst
