My father Johnnie Dotson served with the 894 th Tank Destroyer Battallion in WWII. He was born June 20,1920 and passed away on December 20,1995. He attended reunions in Nashville,Kansas City, and Orlando. I had the honor of meeting several of his fellow comrades and listened as they relived campaigns in Anzio,Rome,Palermo,Salerno,Tunisia, and North Africa. They laughed and cried. What a true blessing it was to hear these brave men reminisce about their experiences. My Father was honored to be part of this brave and elite group of men of the 894th and I know he would want me to express our deepest sympathies to those family members who have lost loved ones who were members of the 894th.We wish you all a Merry Christmas and May God truly bless each and every one of you.

I just discovered this. My late uncle, Carl Konesky was with 809th Headquarters Unit. Carl died in May at age 93 this past year. In clearing his home I kept many photos of the 809th reunions although I do not know a soul. I will email directly to have some of Carl's photos posted. the 809th was special to him; especially the reunions but in later years he could not attend.

:) My late father, Oscar R. Zuckerman, was a tank sergeant in the 644th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Best wishes to all of the remaining soldiers in every part of the armed forces who fought in WWII.

My father, Leonard Moody McCormick, was a member of the 899th. He returned to his home state of Texas to enlist after living in Southern California for a few years. He was born 4 June 1926 in Mullin, Mills County, Texas and died 17 December 1990 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After the war officially ended he re-enlisted for an additional year to help rebuild roads, etc. in Germany and France. He was always proud of his Army 899th tank service!

Hello,
My name is Frank Melka and I was in the 809th Tank Destroyer Unit. With a little help from my son, I’m able to write this message to you. I entered the army in Ft. Meade, MD and then went to Camp Hood, TX then to Ft. Riley, KS. When I went overseas, I was in England, Belgium, Holland, and then Germany. The thing that made it a bit easier to deal with was seeing all of the beautiful women in these different countries. Also, I’m 87 now, so it would be great to know if there are still some other 809th guys out there still.
